Ok, I just completed my first skirt.  I used the 'trace your favorite skirt' method, but I used some wool fabric I had left over from a messenger bag project instead of your typical pillowcase.  Of course this means I won't be wearing it for a couple of months, but I think it turned out pretty cute.
I did some topstitch detailing on the side seams:
(not totally perfect, as you can see)
And a decorative diamond stitch pattern 2" up from the hem:
It's one of the 4 decorative stitches that came with my machine (I set the stitch length to about 1/2 and the width to the max).  It also helps to hold up the turned under hem.

Whatd'ya think?

cute skirt...i usually don't do blue but still...cute skirt...OOOH speaking of blue i just got the venus devine razor...i lobe it. *strokes it lovingly* erm...sorry about that anyway i also like your mirror. lol...hehehe

that's very nice! That'll look great with black tights once it gets colder... You've given me machine-envy, though - the fanciest thing mine does is buttonholes!
