hi,  I've got a fireplace mantle piece from my grandfather's house.  My grandfather made the piece from rough wood about 1920, maybe.  It's pretty basic, but I'd like to use it somehow.  The mantle is basically 3 pieces of wood.  Along the way, it was painted a beige color.  It needs some type of refinishing.  I don't have a fireplace.

I've thought about some sort of shelf, maybe 3 shelves - one of each of the three pieces.  Any ideas?

thanks.  catdaddytn

You can use it for a headboard, a faux fireplace, a piece of giant wall art...

Put it against the wall and use it as a niche. Put books or some art in it. Maybe your TV? Some candles if it is deep enough and protected enough if you light the candles. Maybe put some plants and some plant stands of different heights in it?

I have a perfect spot for it in my house! Maybe I'll go to the salvage yard and see if I can find one! It is just a blank wall begging for some simple decor but noting to too big.  A simple fire place mantle would be perfect! Thanks for posting this, I would have NEVER thought of it until you posted this! And just think.....I was going to put some sort of 70s gravel art there!

thanks for your replies.  I feel much more inspired.  I never thought this post would inspire someone else.  How great it is to bounce off of ideas from various places.

Candles - plants - art might work.  The mantle piece is small.

thanks.  catdaddytn
