...because who is not absolutely in love with Mexican art???

I painted this cross (rather painstakingly) with acrylic paint, and added a few personal touches...

The colors look a little washed out, but in real life they are actually very bright...

This was a cross that I got at Hobby Lobby, I believe.  Here's a work in progress picture:

That was the original color of the cross, which was of course way too bland for kelsorama's taste.

A close up:

As you can see, I added a polymer clay skull (with purple rhinestone eyes!) and purple glitter to the squarish designs on the left and right (and bottom).

Wow, I am so damn proud of this thing, it turned out much better than I expected.  I still need to spray it with some varnish, but after that it's going to hang right along side my other Mexican art!

I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile. I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well. I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave. I will work work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down.

Oh, very nice!  The sparkly purple eyes in the skull are a nice touch too.

If you want to make your own crosses sort of like this, have you seen the multiple-item semi-flexible molds put out by Polyform/Sculpey (at Michaels, etc.) which have a set of embellishment components (designed by Sarajane Helm)??  They'd be perfect as similar shapes for onlaying onto a flat cross background.  Let's see if I can find a photo...okay, here we go:
(especially the "sconce" and "leaf" ones)

There's a guy in my polymer clay guild who also does fancy Mexican crosses with polymer clay (plus a bit of mixed media) though he mostly uses colored clays rather than painting over the clay.   He also makes other Mexican and Dia de los Muertos things I always love to see ...and he's going to be doing a demo one of this items at our next meeting .... yay!
