WIERD!

We've been discussing the current Burger King advertising campaign in my ad class (how it's mainly directed at their young-male customer base) so I've been paying a little more attention to their ads and . . . there's knitting in one!

The ad begins with an exterior shot of the "Whopper" house. It moves inside to where "Dad" burger is saying something along the lines of: "I don't mind if you want to sell yourself for less, but a DOLLAR??"
"Junior" whopper replies with something about how it's cool/whatever, and in the meantime, the "mom" (who is not wearing a burger suit) is sitting on the end of the couch knitting! They continue to chat, Burger King gets its plug in, blah blah.

Knitting doesn't play a huge role in the ad, but I just thought it was neat! Keep an eye out, kids!

Hah those ads crack me up.

Was she knitting correctly, without her needles pointing straight up in the air?  I hate it when ads do that!  It reminds me of the Quilted Northern ad they had awhile ago where they were supposed to be quilting, and instead they had knitting needles and were knitting just like that  Angry

We were talking about this in class . . . I'm going to assume that most of you saying the BK King is creepy are women, right? (I think he's creepy too, and am also a chick.) Well, those commercials have been written and tested to appeal to men ages 18 - 25, which is the population group that BK sells the most to. The franchisers were really mad about this campaign for a while, because they noticed that women, especially, really hated the ads and they were worried that just appealing to the people who already buy BK would make sales go down. But, as it turns out . . . the ads are so popular among their target market that sales have gone up. So the franchisers are happy again.

So, yes, the creepiness? It's deliberate.
