to make my own magnetic poetry, i use the magnet strips that are about half an inch wide (they come rolled up in a sort of coil) and are sticky on one side.  then i just cut out words from magazines or newspapers and stick them to the magnets, cut them out, and cover with nail polish or mod podge to seal them on.  i made a whole set for myself with the words from the bottoms of delia's catalogue pages, and a set for my friend from campus newspaper headlines.  they make good presents!

Cool! Do you have pics of your completed magnets?

I've done this before, it's totally fun. This way you can personalize them better than the sets you can buy. I have pictures of one set i made on my website: http://aryn.astronautdown.com/projects/poetry.html

yay! i'm glad you had pictures, and thanks for putting the extra tips about bending the magnets back, etc: i hadn't thought to mention that.

Does anyone have links to word lists that would be found in a standard magnetic poetry kit?

Hook a brother up! (please?)

http://www.genuineclass.com/ex_magpoetry.html  has  what seems to be a more kid oriented word list, but it's at least a start

http://www.createdbyteachers.com/dolchlist.html is the Dolch word list used in schools and is a good listing of basic words

Clear nail polish as mod podge.  Good idea.  And maybe glitter nail polish could add a cool effect too.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Shocked ^^ i had NO IDEA that HP had cool stuff on their website

thanks for sharing

i LOVE the idea of making your own poetry. if you're looking for a funky theme... i bought a set awhile ago that was "personal ad" themed

you can even cut out small pictures to be used in the phrase making

the words are so fun to make phrases with

i took some pics of my poetry if some of you want to print out your own
