There are several of us around town and some in my stitch n bitch group have been talking about forming oun own Albuquerque-based crafting guild and hosting our own renegade craft fair.

There are specific guilds for spinning and weaving as well as one for knitting but we're hoping for a younger, more general craft group. Sort of in the vein of the "Austin Craft Mafia" or the "Church of Craft".

Along with offering booths for our Etsy members we're hoping to sponsor fun competitions like "Ugliest first scarf", "Oldest Work in Progress", fun things like that instead of the ubercompetitive submissions they have at the fiber fiesta and state fair.

We want to put the FUN back in Craft!

You're welcome to come by our Stitch n Bitch group - meets on Tuesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Flying Star on Rio Grande Blvd.
The stitch n bitch group weblog is:  http://abqsnb.blogspot.com/
The Snb yahoo group is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/abqsnb/

Or at the "Knitters not Quitters" group which meets on Saturdays from noon to 3 pm at Napoli Coffee on Carlisle.
The KnQ yahoo group is:

There's also a Knit Night group that meets on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 pm at the Satellite Coffee shop on Central directly across from the UNM Bookstore.
This is their Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/albuquerqueknitnight

I've run across a few others around but those are the three I've been to.

If you're interested in getting together about the guild or specific Etsy stuff I'm going to be at Napoli this Saturday for a few hours. Email me at nolnoodle@comcast.net and we can get together.

Oh, and children are welcome at the Napoli group!  There's been questions about that since we try to keep the Flying Star kid-free so the moms can have a night off to let their hair down and use their potty mouths.

Thanks so much for plugging Knitters, Not Quitters, Noelle! I'm one of the "founding members" so to speak, and I just wanted to suggest that moms (or dads) maybe sit in on a Saturday session on their own first to be able to gauge for themselves if it's kid-friendly or not. We have been known to use some four-letter words ourselves, so I'd hate to offend anyone.  Wink

I'm in the Burque and I'd be up for a craft fair as well!

He wraps Himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide and trembles at His voice... How great is our God!
