Hey all,

I'm in desperate need of some advice on where I can find a large selection of allover bridal lace (in other words, not trim but yards of lace fabric).

I need to repair my wedding dress. It's a vintage dress and just recently it suffered tears in two places and now I need to have the whole dress re-made.  Cry Crap!

Anyone one know of any places that have lots of this allover lace in a variety of styles? I'd be willing to drive anywhere in New England to look.

Thanks!

Leah

Here are some pics of the dress (before it got ripped!) so you can see what kind of lace I'm looking for. Although I doubt I'll be able to find the exact same lace. My poor dress!!! I'm so sad. Sad

what about that place we went to in Rhode Island?

are the tears really that bad? have you take it to a tailor?  i had a dress repaired that ripped from the knee to the ankle, and you couldn't tell unless you were had it right in your face.

Yeah. I wish I'd made more of a mental note about what kind of lace they had. I think I'll email the Rhodie people and see what the name of that place was and call them.

And, yes, I'm gonna bring it to a seamstress this week and maybe by some miracle they can fix it. It's weird though because I have no idea how it ripped. So it leads me to believe that the lace overlay is just really fragile and that replacing it all would be a smart move anyway.

Thanks for the advice Alison!

Oh wait Leah!!

I forgot to say I compiled this list from some guy's website where he wrote reviews of the stores.  The date was 2003!  Just in case ... to save yourself unnecessary trips, I would call them first to make sure they are still there!  I know the two I mentioned at the beginning of the last post are definately there, and most of the ones on the list.. but just call to make sure.  (I hope you haven't already left) Embarrassed

Osgoods textiles in Springfield MA is HUGE.  I never went there looking for lace, but I sure saw people buying gobs of it.  They do stock some vintage fabrics.  Perhaps you could send them a scan of your lace to see before you make the drive.
