I'm using Kimono Angora Pure. I think it's a DK, and as long as you want it to be open and airy, I think the DK works nicely. I personally love the soft, drapey, airy fabric that is knitting up on the size 10 needles, but that was exactly what I had in mind. I think your wool would be great for this sweater. If you want a sweater of more substance, then a thicker yarn would be better, but from what information I could find of the original yarn, it is a lighter weight as well, so I think you'll be fine using your yarn.

As to making it longer, I don't think it would be hard to do. If I lengthen mine at all, I plan on adding a rib at the bottom like Singlemom suggested, but you could do a little math and just knit it longer, and change the decreases and number of stitches you cast on. The lace pattern is really simple; actually, the entire sweater is quite easy to knit.

Thanks, Singlemom, I'm definitely no tall, slim model, but so far I am liking how it looks on me. Hopefully I will be even more happy with it when it's done!

I've finished one sleeve, and am about 1/2 done with the second! After that, I'll put it together and get opinions on whether I need to do more to it! Soooo close!

Yay! I finished it up and now it's blocking! After it dries and I stitch it up, I'll post pics and see what people think.

Ok, I've got it seamed and have posted a modeled picture on my blog. I'd really love to hear some opinions... I posted some alterations I am considering, and would love to hear what everyone thinks about them!

That looks awesome! I'd vote for the satin ribbon only on the spots that it's needed to tie, and while I think it looks good as is, if you really want to lengthen it, I think some ribbing might look nice, but it may not sit the same as the lace.
You have inspired me to make this sweater - it's hot!!

Thanks, nat! I'm leaning toward using the ribbon, and then leaving it alone. It was just not a style I was sure I could pull off.

It's gorgeous!!

I vote for the satin tie, but I think it would look really cute to have a 3/4" satin ribbon all around the neckline too!

But honestly, I don't think that you could do anything to it to make it look any better- it's already hawt, and it looks great on you!! (I'm a member of the short "would this look better on someone taller" clan, but I think that curves are beautiful- and this sweater definitely plays up your curves).

I'm wanting to start this soon! I bought some katia bamboo today to make it with. But I wan to tie a knot in the front instead of wrapping it around. Theres another person on this site that has made it twice like that. i will see if i can find those posts and put them here for reference..

EDIT

ok I found them!

I wear mine like that all the time, too... just knit it as written (well, adjusting for size if you need to) and then tie the fronts instead of wrapping them. :-)
