I know this is a very old thread but it's not like its going anywhere either so hi, I'm from the states but live in west Ireland now. I've noticed a real lack of fabric, thrift stores, and cheap convenient postage (what no mail boxes! ;p) so my etsy plans and trusty sources are going to need some reconfiguring.. any tips would be most welcome

Hey there

A complete lack of fabric stores etc. What part of the west are you in. There are plenty of thrift stores around, some much better than others and the lack of flat rate boxes is a pain. ON the other hand after many years of swapping, I think that the postage costs are definitely less than the US. You just need to be careful about how you post. For example a packet goes up to 2kg weight, so if you wanted to send 4kg it is far far cheaper to send 2x2kg, than one 4kg packet.

Customs is another big hassle for things that you are receiving, you need to get everyone (that will) to mark no commercial value on anything they send to you, or make sure it is below about 70e in value (I think that is max, it is worth checking) otherwise they will slap 23% on the value of the item, + 23% of postage +a handling fee, I have been burnt by that before now.

I am in county clare/westmeath feel free to get in touch as I think I am the only regular craftster in the republic!
