When I lived with my mom I was free to use hers, it was a pretty boring and old sewing machine. But now that Ive moved away (and its been a while since), Id love to get my own. My query is not which machine to buy, because when I see the one I want, I'll know - but which places are the best to buy them from? So there are obviously sewing stores, then craft places like joann or michaels, but then there are stores like sears, walmart, etc... and Im now totally confused about where I should go. Since many of you awesome sewers probably have gone through this before, I would REALLY appreciate some input, it would help me more than you could believe.

I want something sturdy, with lots of features, dependable, but not way overpriced. Ive never worked with a good quality sewing machine, and I would love to get one that works great, for myself.
