so basically i bought some circular and double pointed needles and went at it! i totally didnt understand how to use the double pointeds, but figured that out and it was smooth sailing the whole way through. i <333 the pom pom. haha. of course its not perfect- i should have decreased in the same spot every time or more evenly, because you can kind of tell, but ohh well it was a prototype.

It's sooooo cute!  The colors you picked are lovely.  (I really can't get anything from double points, because I stink.)  But this is awesome for a first time.

aww for some reason i can't see it!

i learned to use double pointeds the trial and error way, too. also, i've found that i like hats that don't decrease in the same spot better. when the decreases are always in the same place it looks to me like a stitch has been dropped and there are holes halfway up the hat.

not so sure i explained that well. Smiley

hope i get to see the hat at some point!

I recently finished my first hat too! I did the Bottom's Up hat from ChicKnits (I'm not really shy, but the picture I got of my whole head / hat I didn't like!)  Undecided :

wow.. I don't know if I would have ever attempted to knit a beanie without a pattern. I'm kinda a wuss about things like that Smiley I did find this one online though that i love.. After I got the hang of the basic thing I just started making alterations to the basic thing. I like that it gives you counts though.. helped me a lot!

I wish my first hat looked that good.  I did not know how to knit in the round so I did one of those sew up the side numbers, but my brother still likes it just the same. Anyhow girl you've got a nack for knitting!

crescentfresh - may I ask what yarn you used, and what size needles?  That hat is awesome.  I want to knit a hat one of these days, I haven't knitted anything in the round yet.
