Our school musical this year is The Pirates of Penzance. (I was cast as Ruth  Cheesy) Anyway, my director (who knows I knit because I made him a scarf for christmas) asked me to knit something for the production. He told me he wanted one of the pirates to be knitting the whole time. I asked him what he wanted me to knit and he said something colorful and unexpected. I told him that I could do a pirate flag, and the man nearly jumped up and down he was so happy. So one week later, here is my result.

It's still on the circs because it is going to be "worked on" during the performance. I'm really proud of it, and I get my name in the program twice!

that is so cool. I love it. How did you design the skull and crossbones?

What will you do with it post-show?

Thanks, meco. I used the tutorial on knitty and a picture I found through google.
I think I'll finish it after the show and then frame it, have the cast sign the matting, and give it to the director.

You know what would almost be cooler than finishing it? Leaving it unfinished and framing it just like it was in the show. Of course, you probably wouldn't want to donate one of your circs forever, so you'd have to work around that ... but it would be cool.

But boy is that pirate flag rockin'. I loves me some pirates.

(On a side note, one of my best friends played Ruth a few years ago in Pirates. She sang "When Fredric was a little lad" all the time when we would hang out. We didn't mind, because really, she IS Ruth. Ruth, I think, is my favorite character. I'm sure you'll be great in the show, if your singing's anything as good as your knitting. Grin )

Aw, thanks. I think I was cast as Ruth because I already have all that motherly-caring thing going on. I have 5 younger siblings.
I like the idea of keeping it unfinished, but I really <3 those circs. (size 15!) Maybe i'll find a dowel to hang it on, or something.

The part where you are knitting a pirate flag in the musical is going to be hilarious and unexpected! What a great idea---and well done on your part.

Actually, one of the boys is going to be knitting it. He's quite macho looking, and yes, unexpected is what we're going for.
Thanks for the compliments, everyone!

Maybe you could find a nice stick from the yard to put it on, for a natural look. I think that would be a pretty cool wall hanging.

Great job, and it's a great addition to the play. Smiley
