This mosaic was a christmas gift to my husband.  It's mounted on a 6' x 6' tile and the pattern was borrowed from a meditation mandala (its the way sound looks or some fool thing).

I believe this is the first thing I've made without any purpose to it whatsoever, but I rather like it and wanted to share.

I'm a firm believer that art doesn't need to have purpose other than just being!

Did you make each tile and bake them individually or did you bake sheets and then cut them? Or none of the above?

For the tiles I rolled out sheets of clay then cut squares.  I layered clay before making the sheets (the pic doesn't show it, but the tiles are actually quite textured looking)  the whole sheet with the cuts were then baked and separated.  each tile is less than a centimeter big.

Thanks for the comments!

It looks like you put a lot of time and thought into this project! I bet he loved it!
I just recently started attempting mosaic pieces. Any tips for a beginner?

I'm just beginning too.  All I can say, with the poly clay, is dont mount your mosaic on something that is going to heat at a different rate then the clay in the oven - it'll crack the clay.

The worst part of my project was 'grouting' - if i was to do it again I may explore other materials then p clay

Thank you for all the nice comments.  I was frightened of someone saying, 'what the hell for?' but its inspiring to hear good things.  My husband said he liked it too, but then again, he sort of has to, right?  Anyway, thanks again.
