Hello!!!
I was just looking through the knitty hat patterns and found this one:
http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter03/PATTcoronet.html

I have some yarn that I might want to use, but I don't have enough for a whole hat I know for sure.  I was thinking, the cabled band is knit separately anyway, that might make a cute headband.  How much yarn, ya think would that take?

thanks guys!

On pure estimation, I would guess between 40 and 50 meters.  I suggest doing a test swatch of one repeat of the cable pattern, then frog it and see how long that is.  Then, you can extrapolate the amount needed to go around your head from there.

Happy swatching~
