Does anyone know where I can buy:

- a beginner's spinning kit, or
- a beginner's needle felting kit

in Toronto, or online from a Canadian company?

Hello minouette!  Why is it so hard to buy something as (seemingly?) simple as this in Canada?  I know there are tons of places in the States where you can order this stuff, but the duty is always so high.

I really don't know! Plus some things you just can't convince them to ship across the border.

I haven't been actively looking for felting needles or a spinning kit myself, to be honest. I saw your post as an easy way to get information... I'm so impressed with some of the wonderful things posted here and I'm living in the country at the moment and my neighbours have sheep, so I thought I really must give felting a try.

So, I just tried google and came up with the following:
http://www.peak.org/~spark/feltsources.html which lists resources for felting. It includes links for roving, batting, felting needles etc. and a few of them are in Canada. Many are such tiny businesses they sound like they are run out of people's homes. Here is a list of those with email or websites:
http://www.shared-visions.com/wool in Vancouver
[email protected] is in Mount Albert, Ontario
http://kdsfibres.tripod.ca/ in Ottawa
http://www.feltdesigns.com in Maple Ridge, BC
http://www.gnomesweetgnome.com/main.htm in Duncan, BC
http://www.minimills.net/feltmaker.htm in Belfast, PEI

Hopefully that should get you started. Tell me how it goes.  Smiley

Cool, I live in the states but I am on the border with Canada, so my Canadian friends order stuff online all the time and send it to me and my friends, then we just drive across the bridge and resend it from the Canadian Post Office.

Oh, they're so lucky to have a cross-border friend!  One of the my coworkers used to live in Windsor, and he always  used to buy his sheets, towels, and clothing from the States, because dollar for dollar, the quality is so much better.  Not sure about clothing, but I have noticed how much nicer cotton sheets and towels from the States are on the rare occasions that I'm willing to swallow the duty - ouch!

Ooh, I just noticed this post. I'm not sure if people have found what they were looking for, but I thought I'd just post a few links anyways.
