A friend sent me a pattern, and I can't make out what one of the stitch abbreviations is supposed to be. It reads "skpo," and the closest I can get to understanding that is "Slip knit purl over," which makes no sense to me. Am I missing something? I can't seem to find this abbreviation anywhere online.

Is there any indication in the pattern (written out or implied) that it's a decrease stitch?  It sounds like "slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over," or at least that's how I would read it.

Yep.

SKPO means Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass the slipped stitch over the stitch just knit

Not that I knew that already, but I heavily rely on Google when I come across an abbreviation I don't recognize OR when I'm looking for a new way to do techniques.  A finnish website with a movie on how to pearl continental style saved my knitting life - I just couldn't do it the way SnB showed.

Anyway, I found SKPO here: http://www.knitting-and.com/psjs_faqs/09146598.shtml

Science, knitting, ranting, and sex.  Not always in that order, and often all at once.

Look for me on ravelry!  Hey, that rhymed!

Ah, thank you both! That explains why I didn't recognise it. I'm used to seeing that one written out a bit more 'longhand', so to speak. This makes things much easier.

Now I just have to fiddle with it all to make the yarn-overs and passed stitches work without driving me insane. :p

Thanks a bunch, guys!
