am i the only one who doesn't want a bouquet? i mean no real flowers or silk flowers or paper flowers... my fi and i originally planned on having the bridesmaids carry parasols but then we changed our wedding from spring to november.  i saw those pretty crystal bouquets but im just not crafty enough for that... does anyone have suggestions for what the bridesmaids and i can carry down the aisle besides flowers?

How about candles?

You don't need flowers if you don't want flowers.. simple as that.  What if you just didn't replace them with anything.. no carrying of items at all?

OR! how about basketfuls of fall leaves... or fruit. I know that fruit idea may seem crazy, but it could be really beautiful.  Or you could make bouquets out of fall leaves.

Grin Good luck. Whatever you decide to do will be lovely I'm sure.

Meatwad: I'm satan's onion... or scallion, something like that.

Frylock: I think you mean minion.

Meatwad: oh yeah, that's right.

sonjavan - i thought of candles, our site won't allow them.

i thought of not carrying anything but my bridesmaids want something to hold/something to do with their hands while they are walking/standing up with us.  has anyone seen pictures using feathers or pinecones or gourds... i get so overwhelmed when i walk into a craft store, i need a picture to start with. my coworker suggested carrying baskets of kittens and then giving them away at the end. is she serious?!?!?

Don't know about the kittens, but I like your idea of gourds.

How about different items that can be placed into a cornacopia at the front?  Indian corn, gourds, leaves, etc.

BTW, my attendants didn't carry a thing.  Didn't detract from anything at all.

Course, it was a same-sex wedding, and everyone except myself were in tuxes.

I've seen bridesmaids carry peacock feathers (a bunch of 3-5) just like a bouquet.  It was really pretty, the way the lights caught all the different colors.

What about a bunch of reeds or similar fall-type foliage?  Or is that too close to the bouquet idea?

Why don't you want flowers? I'm curious as to why you'd have bouquets of gourds, pine cones, feathers, etc. but just not flowers (question only intended to help brainstorm). Also, what are the primary colors you are using or theme if any? Do you have flowers anywhere else? (centerpeices, isles...). I love the idea of parasols...but I understand why you can't use them. I'm thinking....

You could do fall colored silk parasols. Or I'm thinking some type of scroll-ish thing, maybe with love poetry? (half-formed idea)

Just a thought...

What about each one carrying a velvet or silk pouch, tied with a long and wide ribbon to hang from? The pouches can be filled with pictures, mementos or pieces of paper full of well wishes, hopes & dreams for the future....or it could just be made to match the bridesmaids dresses and used by them.

If you carry one, maybe it could hold your vows?

you girls are so helpful!!! go craftster!
livineasy - i'm not opposed to bouquets - i've just never been a real flower lover. and i dont like the idea of spending lots of cash on flowers that die or get thrown away the next day. it just seems wasteful.
i love the ideas of peacock feathers and velvet purses.
we are having our wedding the day after thanksgiving so we are thinking of a fall theme. no official color theme.  its a pretty small (80 ppl) party at a historical home, so we are thinking warm, cozy, informal and fun.
