I am sooo proud of my Halloween costume this year!  I decided to be Batgirl.  Specifically, Yvonne Craig's old-school Batgirl from the Batman TV series, none of that leather-clad Alicia Silverstone nonsense!  But for the bad-ass purple boots that I bought three months ago, I made my entire costume out of thrifted existing garments.

The bodysuit was a huge, baggy, odd, bellbottom purple satin two piece pantsuit.  I took in the legs and added darts and a back zipper to the top to make it more form-fitting.  The bat emblem on the chest and the utility belt were made out of a yellow rain slicker.  The purple satin outside of the cape was the poofy skirt of a formal dress.  The gold inside of the cape was the lining of the rainslicker.  The wristlet thingies were made from the scraps leftover from taking in the bodysuit.  The purple stretch velvet of the hood was a mini-dress and the black velvet mask was the bodice of the afore-mentioned poofy-skirted formal.

(Oh yes, and the rental-costume-clad new-school Robin next to me is a co-worker who tragically lost his Batman before the pictures were taken for the costume contest.  I was asked to stand in.)

I only have this one picture right now (from the contest--results pending), but when I get more, I'll post them.  This is by far the most ambitious project I've ever completed.  Without a pattern of any sort, mind you, but with an abundance of swear words!

Anyway, y'all please let me know what you think of it!

Here's a new pic of me by myself.  (Better view of front.)

Sadly, I didn't win the costume contest.  A rather large guy dressed as the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters won.  (His was pretty good, but I had the purple and the satin and the battiness... Sad  )

That is amazing. The TV series was my favorite to watch when I was a kid, too. I still think the catgirls on there were the best ever.

You look fantasitic!

That is a superb costume! And the fact that you went old school with it makes it even more awesome!
