my FAVORITE christmas music is the charlie brown christmas album. it is some of the most relaxing music, and i play it a lot all year. it's composed and performed by the vince guaraldi trio, and i think it's widely available at starbucks.

There is a great xmas cd that was released last year i think called "Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas"

HOLY CRAP, that's exactly what I want!

Nothing beats going to Denny's at 10 pm with Becoming The Archetype and sharing a milkshake with Seth. Nope, nothing.

Our favorite is "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas" by the original singer, Gayla Peevey! It has this great Ethel Merman vibe going on and reminds me that you can ask for anything for Christmas( even large dangerous animals).

Aging punk that I am, the Christmas season doesn't really start for me until I hear the Ramones and Blondies' Christmas Wrapping.

Speaking of aging, don't forget Wierd Al Yankovic's "Christmas at Ground Zero" and "The Night Santa went Crazy". Grin

Myself, being in cold, miserable, way too snowy Maine, I wear out Jimmy Buffett's "Christmas Island" CD.  "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum, Santa's run off to the Carribean."  Hehe.  Who could resist?

Not that I don't like snow.  Snowflakes are beautiful, and my decor of choice for Generic Winter Holiday(TM).  It's when they gang up on me that they piss me off. Grin

There is also a 2000 release called It's a Cool, Cool Christmas

01 - Grandaddy 'Alan Parsons In A Winter Wonderland'
02 - The Dandy Warhols 'Little Drummer Boy'
03 - The Webb Brothers 'Every Day Is Christmas'
04 - Eels 'Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas'
05 - El Vez 'Feliz Navidad'
06 - Morgan 'Christmas In Waikiki'
07 - Drugstore 'Maybe At Christmas Time'
08 - Belle & Sebastian 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel'
09 - Giant Sand 'Thank You Dreaded Black Ice, Thank You'
10 - The Flaming Lips 'White Christmas (demo for Tom Waits)'
11 - Saint Etienne 'My Christmas Prayer'
12 - Departure Lounge 'Christmas Downer'
13 - Six By Seven 'I Believe In Father Christmas'
14 - Snow Patrol 'When I Get Home For Christmas'
15 - Titan 'Spiritual Guidance'
16 - Big Boss Man 'Christmas Boogaloo'
17 - Teenage Fanclub 'Christmas Eve'
18 - Calexico 'Gift X-change'
19 - Gorky's Zygotic Mynci 'Hwiangerdd Mair'
20 - Low 'Just Like Christmas'
21 - Lauren Laverne 'In The Bleak Midwinter'

Last year I made an "I hate Christmas music" CD for my co-workers as I went into my 6TH! Christmas working retail over the holidays.  The agreed upon most depressing track was "Christmas Eve Can Kill You" by the Everly Brothers.  It's really a must-hear track.

"How I don't know what I should do with my hands when I talk to you. How you don't know where you should look, so you look at my hands."

For me it's not Christmas unless I hear the Pogues "Fairytale of New York" or "Merry Christmas from the Family" by Robert Earl Keen. The second is a country song, but be brave! It actaully inspired me to have White Trash Christmas cards for this year. We're gonna get dressed up in our white trasshiest attire in front of the tree and take a picture for the front of the card with "Merry Christmas from the Family" as the quote inside the cards. I'm going to burn cd's that have these two songs, plus a few others, including South Parks "Merry Fucking Christmas" to send out to mine and the hubby's family.  Cheesy
