This is my first sewing project ever! It's lined, and I even managed to put a zipper on there with no zipper foot. Despite the appearance of my lopsided stuffing job, the purse is actually symmetrical. I don't know enough to give a tutorial, but I used this pattern by cutting out two 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper:
