i've got it down to 15 minutes!  not that speed is so important, but it's nice to throw together some cloth to make a matching bottom instantly!  the picture is awful (sorry, camera batteries are almost dead).. but the grey one is made from a 50-cent second hand sweater (neck hole is waist band) the plaid one was a free remnant, the blue one was also made from free fabric from a church sale, and has a ladybug applique on the corner, and the yellow one is leftover minky-blankie from a quilt i made.  all size 2, and the minky one is especially soft and cuddly!
thanx fer lookin'!

Those are very cute.  I just took a bunch of shirts and sweaters from my 12 year old son that he has outgrown and I was trying to think of some way to recycle them.  You've inspired me to give it a try.  My 2 year old will think it's fun that her skirts used to be "Bubba's" shirts.  Thanks!  I only hope mine turn out half as cute as yours.

hey kellebelle,
to recycle the sweaters, check first that the neck band is sufficiently wide enough for your daughter's waist, then cut off sweaters below armpits, and cut off neck band and fold it over, making a tube.  sew the tube except for an inch or so, and thread some wide elastic through it.  sew it up and sew right sides together to top of 'skirt'.  if the sweaters are ribbed on the bottom, turn under the ribbing once and sew or else the skirt will cinch in at the bottom (i tried to skip this step but it didn't look too attractive).

i haven't figured out  what to do with the leftover arms but i'm sure someone here will know!

this is a better pic of the minkie blankie skirt....
