You could go over the top and wear lots of jewelry,  (wear ya treasure, arrrh)  Strings and strings of faux pearls of different lengths would look good.

Yeah, my boyfriend was a pirate two years ago - we found a perfect gold chain necklace at a thrift store, it had fake gold chinese coins and pearls. i think anything that you'd find in a pirate's trunk full of booty would be apropriate; think: rubies and saphires, chunky flashy jewels, lots of gold in rings and chains. nothing too frilly.
also a bottle of rum never hurt anybody!

This site gave me a lot of ideas (I'm going to be a pirate, too). http://www.piratesofthecoast.com/shop/index.html
I especially like the hairpieces... I plan on getting cheap bohemian earrings from Claires and taking the charm off, adding beads, and cliping them in my hair.

awesome site thanks alot... i'm just a little confused about the hairpieces... how exactly do you wear them?  wouldn't they get stuck in your hair or something?

I don't know about the ones they sell, but I'm just going to string beads and some charms onto lightweight sting and then add a bobby pin of one of those "snap" clips.
