haven't posted here for a while, but i'd just like to say that i decided on pirate, not fairy (or pirate-fairy) because i'm a huge procrastinator and had no time to do both, along with millions of projects for school, so i slapped it together the day before our halloween dance at 9:00 at night while trying to watch survivor.
i was trying to go for the Captain Jack Sparrow look, except a girl. fortunately, my hair is really curly and i can twist it into sections to get a dreadlock-like effect, so i did that and stuck some beads in it, and for what i think is a bone, i used (what else?) a knitting needle. i made a red bandanna and dirtied it up a bit, then hung another string of beads from that. I added the thick eye liner, and there was my Captain Jack head. the rest of my costume was not so jack-ish, juust more feminine pirate....i got a black velvet-ish blazer and hot-glued ruffles made from an old sheet dyed in tea around the collar and longer ones on the ends of the sleeves. i got a lace-ish peasant top and dyed that in tea also. i made a useless (too big) corset out of brown corduroy, and that was also hot-glued together. i wore a brown lace skirt and some boots that i folded the top down to make them more pirate-y. i finished it off with wy pirate medallion (a coin i stole from my cousin's pirate board game glued to a chain) and that was it. i'll post pictures if i ever get any.

wow, thats like, almost exactly what i was going to do in the beginning of my costume!!
sounds awesome. but instead of doing dreads in my hair, im doing cornrows. which my friend will do on monday.
i should have my pics of my costume up today!!! (at the latest, tuesday.)

much love

Here's my costume all finished!!

And a close up of my daughters makeup.

The dress originally looked like this. But I took it in with every inch of its life, hemmed the hell out of it, then rolled it in mud, fake blood, and ripped holes in it. The sash was made with some $2 fabric from WalMart and acrylic paints for the words. I wish you could see my hair, because it is SO poofy and crimped. Anyway, here's the dress. I'm so proud of it. Cheesy

well, this wasn't as intensive as many of the costumes listed here, but I made it all in one way or another, and I was pretty pleased with the results...

and the piece de resistance:

(a kiddie shirt I bought at value village - turned inside out and sharpied; a skirt I made out of a pair of my dad's super old levi's; an ill-fated aldo nova record and a pair of tights. liberal fake blood and a pair of chucks, et voila! zombie hipsters!)

the army:

I found the spot where truth echoes and know each beauty mark by heart - but I just can't keep her still enough to render perfect art.

I threw this together at the VERY LAST minute...

-Black 3/4 tights
-Big poofy pale pink DIY tutu
-Black tee with white screen printed ballerinas
-Pale pink knitted ballet crossover
-Mismatched chucks (hot pink and white/green) with weird shoelaces
-Dark eye makeup, hair in bun, black fingerless glove thing... made form the foot of my tights
-Big loopy pearl neacklace

I was a weird punk ballerina, and I loved it. Some random yelled out 'I LIKE YOUR CHUCKS' which pretty much made my night.

I want your lungs to stop working without me.
