here goes- *pattern drafting skills don't fail me now  Wink

http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v154/shade_n_shadow/PeatskirtTutorial.jpg

(this is the first tutorial I've written so bear with me!!!!)

Ok- you shouldn't need more than a yard of fabric to make this skirt

Get out the paper you will draw you pattern on, a ruler, a few good pencils, and a 90degree angle (to make sure your lines are perpindicular). And have your hip measurement handy!

The drawing should be fairly self explanitory as far as the drafting of your pattern pieces- you can add more pleats by adding 2 inches for each to A. Make sure they are evenly spaced. For mine (and the pattern shown) I kept them 3 inches apart, with the front center pleat being 9 1/2 inches wide.

For those of you who have not done pleats- mark the tops of the solid and dotted lines (I use tailors tacks)
then you will take the ones indicated as dotted lines, and fold it to line it up with the solid line, putting the dotted behind the solid, and having the excess towards the center. pin and baste in place. do this for both lower front and back.
This top pleated edge should be equal to the bottom edge of the yoke.
Sew right sides together- the yoke bottom edge and the top pleated edge of the lower skirt. Do this with both the front and back. Iron seam allowances towards the top of the skirt and edgestitch them up.
Sew the front and back together, right sides together.
Hem the bottom edge in your usual way
Slip the skirt on, and test the length- I know its too big on your waist, just bear with me... decide how long you want the skirt to be, and mark how much extra yoke you have. I decided my yoke was WAY to big (but I'm damn short)- my finished yoke ended up being  2.5".
When you figure out how wide you want the yoke, pin carefully all the way around so that its the same width (measuring from the seam where the pleated part and the yoke come together UP)- fold the excess inside  and pin. Iron to get a clean line. Sew around the top 1/2" from the fold you just made, and leave a 1" opening (to get your elastic in!).  You can now cut away any excess yoke (be sure to serge or zig zag your edge though!)
Cut your 1/4" wide elastic to your size (for where the top of the skirt will sit on you, minus an inch) , and feed it through. overlap the ends and sew together securely. work into place.
On the one I made I took 1/2" wide ribbon to the yoke/skirt seam for decoration.

I saw that fabric at JoAnns and want it so bad but it's $10 a yard! $10 a yard, I say! I cried for days, except not.
