I'm looking into making a new backpack. What types of fabric are nice looking (I like festive patterns with bright reds, blues, and greens) and sturdy, and where can I buy the fabric?
The moment I saw this pattern, I knew that I needed to use it, but too bad it's only sold in Europe, and I live in the U.S.

Is there similar cloths like this around here?

Oh yes, and does anyone have experience with making backpacks? I wanted to know if there were special cutouts as to how to form the pocket, add zippers, and add comfortable straps. My friend (she's odd) told me to just glue the fabric onto one of my old backpacks! haha!
Thank you!

As far as patterns go, I would recommend you go to the store and buy yourself the pattern you want / like.  This will instruct you to apply zippers, pockets, strap padding, reinforcement, etc.  To try to learn it from a converstaion like this would not give you the results you are looking for.  We can help answer questions about  pattern instructions, etc, but you really should have a good pattern so you can follow along, step - by - step.

Most backpacks carry heavy loads and you need to use proper stitches, fabric, reinforcements, zippers, snaps, etc to ensure you are creating an item that will not be used once and then fall apart.  Don't take short cuts if you are planning on having this around awhile.

As far as cloth goes, I have seen it at Hancock's.  Not sure about Joanns but I would imagine they have some of it around.  Try the decorating department.

If you find it online and it's overseas you should be able to order it.  Products are transported across the pond every day.  If you find the perfect fabric, they should be able to ship it to you.

Hope this helps a little,
