but i'm sort of wondering what i should do with these illustrations after they're all done. Should I, like, try to actually get it printed? I'm just doing it as an exercise, but it does seem like an awful lot of work, to not have any tangible result, haha.

If you want to print them just for yourself.. or even just a few sets, you should look into kinkos and see if they have some kind of thick card stock you could get them printed on and them laminate them.  Maybe like 2-4 on a sheet depending on the sides, then cut them with curved edges.

I always wanted to design my own deck. I just never had the courage to, I'm too picky and don't have the time to do it just how I want it.
