so i got this idea to illustrate my own tarot deck (kind of random, since i don't know how to USE a tarot deck), but the symbology is pretty rich, and fun to work with. So i'm starting out with 0. The Fool.

this is my starting sketch, and i'm going to color him in, i think

whaddaya think?

I think your sketch is really sweet!!!

I too started to draw up my own deck, some years ago....... I only did about 5 of the cards eventually!!!!!!  It was very laborious, and I am not as good at sketching as I think I am!!!  Like the brain can see the beautiful images, but the hands cant perform the magic....(I know I dont suffer alone with this affliction!)

..........If you were to do both the major and minor arcarna then you will be at it for years!!!!

I would suggest that you scan the images as you are going along, (or take step by step photo;s).  This will make reproducing them later much easier, and will also help towards any possible copyright issues that could come up.  Make a back up copy of the files too if you can!!  I would love to see any that you finish..........they would look great on t-shirts, like put your denominator card up...  Wink

those are all great ideas!
i'm actually drawing these on the computer, using alias sketchbook pro, so i can easily save the copies as i go (thank goodness).

i think i'm just doing the major arcana for now
i'm thinking of packaging them up when they're done and using them as self-promo materials to send out as mailings for my freelance illustration/design business.

I agree--he looks great! (You can always learn "how to use" a tarot later :-P)
A friend and I were actually collaborating on illustrating our own tarot YEARS ago but nothing quite that artistic!
