Get your minds out of the gutter Grin

I do a lot of cabling.  My fingers get all torn up:

However, there's a solution for every problem:

I did this with dk cotton on 3.5mm needles, since that's what I had just a weensy little amount of (it only took like a yard), in a simple eyelet pattern I made up as I went along, but wouldn't this be great in, say, fair isle cashmere?

Just cast on an even number or stitches (I did 12); divide evenly onto 3 or 4 double points; work two or three rows of k1, p1 rib; work in stockinette or in whatever pattern you like until it's as long as you want (I did 10 rows); work another couple rounds of ribbing; bind off.  Ten minutes, tops.

Wow thats great.

I can see a whole new thing developing out of that, people wearing them with fingerless gloves or wrist warmers, little caps to go on the ends of fingers, cuffs for toes. We could all end up wearing little tubes on different parts of our body. OK, I know I'm getting weird.

Musicians might like them too, they could sure take the ouch out of bar chords.....
