In an art class that I took we had to make clay figures and then think of a setting to put them in. We taped three pieces of cardboard together but half a shoe box would work too. It was really fun to make and you could use almost anything to make the items used in the backrounds.

You probably meant earthen "clay," but we do a lot of the same thing with polymer clay for figures and little accessories, as well as the settings themselves sometimes.

If anyone wants to see some of what I mean, check out some of the links on these pages:

There isn't much that's more fun than making little scenes of any kind IMO!
