For the Be Awesome Redux swap I was paired with the incomparable sheepBlue. So I knew I had to bring my A game. Smiley
Finished project.

while chatting and pinteresting I settled on a piece of art she had pinned. So I wrote to the artist asking permission to make a quilt based on her art. (whiteoctopus on etsy... the piece is called "beneath"). Once that was granted. I broke out the graph paper.
I pulled out all my whites and blues and printed off a bunch of paper piecing patterns. it was the easiest way to get the crazy quilted fractured icy look I was going for.

Then. There was a pause. I didn't have a "sea" fabric in my stash. And it took me three days and four fabric shops and hubby pushing me to "forget about the price/meter, do what the quilt needs" (see why I married him! Smiley) to get the perfect fabric.

The tentacles, before I even started i knew I would be using a horded metallic dot fabric... Perfect for the impression of suckers.
We live in a house of cats. And they "helped" with basting.
And quilting
And squaring

I am so pleased with how this turned out. It was built to fit the top of a queen sized bed. But drape the length.

The original inspiration.

And this is what my notebook looks like at the end of a project Smiley

This is AWESOME! Love the ice effect and of course the tentacles just take the whole piece to a new level.

Totally rocks.

What an epic quilt!

The original designer is quite talented as well and it was kind of her to grant permission to do your own interpretation of her design with fabric!

I love the process (and your amazing hubby!)...you really did bring your A+++++ game!

It's huuuuuge and it's awesome and it's all mine!!!  Cheesy

You'll be happy to know I have been cuddled up in this masterpiece on my couch for the last 2 days and am in love with it completely. I keep finding cool new patterns of fabric that make up the crazy quliting. And the metallic polka dots for the tentacles are totally perfect!

You rock sloth! (Oh and I Love seeing your process pictures, especially with all the kitty helpers lol).

This is definitely one of the most awesome projects in the awesome swap. Lucky sheepBlue! I'm sure the person who did the original art was pleased with your interpretation.
