Yay! I finished it! Grin
I used almost a whole ball of Lionbrand Microspun, which is a sportweight yarn, 168 yds per ball.  This is how I did it:
On size 3 DPN's, CO 110 sts
K 4 rounds
on round 5, K1, M1 around and then switch to size 5 DPN's
cable pattern:
Row 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6: *p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k4*
Row 3:  *p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back, k2, k2 from cable needle*
repeat pattern until piece measures 6" from beg.
next round :k2 tog around
next round: k2tog around
next round: k2tog around
cut yarn, leaving 10" tail, thread on yarn needle and weave through stitches left on needles to tighten the hole and close it up.  Weave in ends.

***If I were to make this again, however, I would start out with k1, p1 rib at the bottom, cuz it rolls up, and maybe CO fewer sts to make it a little bit tighter around my head.  Also, I didn't CO the right amt of sts so the cables aren't evenly spaced out.  Embarrassed  Don't ask me why i didn't frog it in the beginning and fix these things...

Great job! It looks just like the original! I can't decide if it would look good on my big scottish head (and short hair) or not.

Your hat looks great slimissaw!  I've been working on mine a lot this weekend after frogging it a million times over the last week or so.  I think mine might be a little tighter than I wanted after the brim.  I think yours looks good, the cables look like mine do.  I'll post more about mine when I get it done, hopefully I'll have a picture to post with it by then.  ::::crosses fingers::::

Also staralee, I have short hair and it looks all right so far on me.

very nice slimissaw... looks very much like the one in the movie

it's kinda funny how all us crafty people get obsessed about things like knitted hats in movies  Wink

I ain't here to break it...
just see how far it will bend.

I'm trying to do the turtleknits pattern, and am confused on the cable as well. If you slip three stitches, then knit three, you end up with basically a six stitch cable right? But then the next stitch in the pattern is supposed to be a purl, and with using six stitches, you are on a knit instead of the purl called for.

Am I losing my mind here?

*Edit* Yea ummm, finished reading the pattern. Nevermind!
