We are having our traditional dishes: turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, yeast rolls, and pie for dessert.

This year, I decided to decorate the top of the pie. Here it is, just out of the oven!

The apples underneath distorted the design a bit... oh, well!

The edges leaked more than usual... hopefully will still taste good.

Yummo! I am not a baker or cooking person. What did you use for the lettering?

The leaf is a cookie cutter. The letters are from impression sets you can purchase. I used to make cookies and cakes semi-professionally, so I have some fun implements on my kitchen shelves.

So what are you guys having for turkey day?

We stayed home instead of going to his parents because we both have sinus infections. I'm on antibiotics--my left ear has been hurting like the dickens! We made chicken, veggies, instant potatoes, and TX toast. Easy peasy. We didn't miss anything because his family has "redundant" holidays and the same ppl plus his aunt and her kids' families will get together on Sat.

Hope you had a good day!

Still sounds yummy... and sounds like you’ll get more holiday food later. Sorry you aren’t feeling well. Feel better soon!

Thanks! It’s actually fairly easy, too.

You roll or flatten the top crust between 2 pieces of parchment paper. Carefully peel off the top parchment, but keep it to use again later.

Use cookie cutters or imprint tools to press your designs fairly deeply into the raw dough, but try not to cut all the way through.

Re-apply the parchment and flip the crust upside-down. Carefully peel off the parchment (the one on top, that used to be on the bottom...) and then flip the top crust onto the pie. Peel off the other parchment and discard all parchment.

Seal crust as usual. Use a paring knife to vent the pie. (The designs you imprinted may have torn in some places, acting as vents.) You can hide any other vent holes along the imprint lines if you like.

Enjoy!
