This is my first attempt at making an automaton! The chicken pecks, the goat jumps and the duck swims around.
They are craft foam coated with melted crayons... I used a hot glue gun and burnt myself sooo many times Grin
The inner workings are craft foam, wire and cardboard.
Please watch the video it looks so much cooler moving!

Well that's cool! The video is super fun, the duck especially Cheesy.

I'd love to hear more about how you constructed things. Automata are amazing!

Let me just say that I LOVE automata, and yours is fantastic! So many different mechanisms and movements!

This is making me want to revive the idea of a kinetic swap or craftalong where you make things that move. (Pop-ups, automata, balancing toys, mobiles, etc.)

This is just awesome!

Thanks! The inside is such a mess because I was figuring it all out as I went but I'm working on a new one and I'm hoping to leave the inner workings semi exposed... Like backlight it and cover the front of the box with silk fabric so you can see everything moving in shadow.
I bought some knex so that I could have some prefab gears to work with (then I found out they sell gears on Amazon for cheap)
The construction and figuring out how to fit everything in is so fun... Really makes me use another part of my brain! Maybe I'll try and document this next one better
