I purchased several oversized long shirt nightshirts. I like a simple item to sleep in. But the shirts were just a bit too plain. I had recently purchased "The Geometry of Hand Sewing" and wanted to try out some stitches. I cut shapes out of old t-shirts and then experimented. Amazing how much my sleep has improved!

They look great.

I am interested in what you thought of the book. I did look at it recently in a bookshop but it was $$$ worth it do you think? Are the plastic guides useful, or a bit redundant?

I love this! A much better (or at least more fulfilling, I'd expect) way to do test swatches than just on random scraps. I currently have the same book (and 3 or 4 more Alabama Chanin ones) from the library right now. I'm thinking that I will be adding them in order of desire to my Christmas wishlist this year. I just have to pick which ones I find most useful. I already own Alamaba Studio Style, and I love just reading it. Grin

Your stitching is very neat and even, and I like the idea of recycling patches of T-shirts this way!

I like the book and the instructions are clear. I did like the templates and they worked great on the lighter colors, but I didn't have a way to mark the darker colors, so had to wing it. I'll have to get a fabric pen for dark fabrics, my last one dried up. It's always interesting working with knit fabrics, much harder to be consistent and not distort, though the book does its samples on knits.

The book was enough for me and I did buy because of the templates. I make up most my designs anyway...or just wing it!

it did look good, but do you use it??? Enquiring minds want to know. I am trying to figure out if it would be another book that looks pretty on my shelf, rather than a really used one.
