Has anyone played around with home-made wood wicks?  So far as I've been able to find the things people have used seem to be purchased wicks or balsa craft sheets cut up and soaked in olive oil.  I am having a moment of being picky about eco-friendliness, and it seems to me that if I'm soaking something in olive oil, it ought to be something derived from my yard waste rather than mass produced wood product from the tropics.  So my questions are as follows:

Has anyone tried something besides these two options?  If so what, & how well did it work?

Is the flat shape of the standard wood wick important?  Or would something round also work?

A lot of the tutorials I've seen suggest that straight soy wax won't work with a wood wick unless you add some sort of accelerant. Has anyone tried non-parafin options for that, and have suggestions for what works well?

I'm guessing I will probably have to do my own experiments on this, but figured it was worth asking.  Smiley
