There's a thing that comes up in writing workshops a lot, about how most people's artistic taste develops in advance of their ability, so basically you're always chasing the thing you can see in other people's work but aren't quite good enough to do yourself yet.  It sometimes helps if you can look back at something you did a few years ago and realize that you could do it better now.  Smiley

In one of my classes my teacher had us do one drawing that was "good" and then do one drawing that we considered "bad" but the catch was we had to spend the same amount of time on both. Everyone had to display both drawings and the class had to guess which was bad and which was good. It was really hard. It taught me that a lot of it has to do with effort. She also said everyone can draw, those who say they are unable don't appreciate their own style yet. I fully agree with that statement.

Gozer, what an eye opening experience that sounds like for your class!  Your teacher was very insightful!

That sounds like a great exercise.  I somewhat keep an eye on the #drawthisinyourstyle on Instagram and when I see what people draw... it's amazing.  I don't think I have a style yet.
