Merino felted over a craft felt foundation. I did a brooch similar to this one using less Merino. It fully covered the craft felt, but wasn't dense enough to do controlled shallow embroidery (i.e. not needling through the craft felt interior).

This brooch was created with probably twice the thickness of merino. Both were wet felted and fulled in the same manner. The extra merino allowed for better control of the embroidery.

Gorgeous! The color combo is so elegant, and the extra depth of wool with the accent embroidery is very dramatic.

Thank you!!

I really like those colors and will probably do some variations.

This is the original brooch in these colors with a thinner layer of Merino that made controlling the embroidery shapes more difficult:

The yarn that I used around the middle section is this gorgeous variegated thin and thick yarn for which I had some specific plans. Made some test pieces and found that the color doesn't hold up under wet felting. Will still find more uses for it, I'm sure.

Soo pretty! It almost looks like a virus to me, but in the best way possible.

You cannot give me too much work; to accumulate work has almost become a passion with me: my study is so full of it now, that there is hardly an inch of room for any more. I shall have to throw out a wing soon. (J.K.Jerome)

I keep looking at both brooches and can't make up my mind if I love the lined dots more or the straight lines. Both are great!
