Just finished a Colored Pencil drawing of my doggie. She is a Miniature schnauzer and Scotty mix, and she has been part of our family for 2 years this Christmas. We adopted her at a shelter. She turns three years old this month.

7.5" x 7.5" Prismacolor Premier Colored pencil, OMS and white gel pen on Strathmore Bristol smooth paper

Reference: Mine

I feel like I have a distinctive style emerging. And I curious as to where this will lead.

I am SO AMAZED by the realism you achieve, and how you also made the picture richer in color and gave such expression to her eyes!!

It's a solvent that releases the pigment from the binder. In this case wax and allows for blending. It turns the pigment liquid and it can me moved around like watercolor.

Some of it is precision, others  could be resist techniques like masking and embossing and scraping and white gel pen. CPs have come a long ways since the 90s when I started using them.
In this portrait I used a lot of embossing and gel pen for highlights.
