so...how bad is it?

years ago I purchased a jersey knit sheet set and I loved it SO much because the material is so cozy and soft.  however, it's hot as #%&@ to sleep on (for me anyway.  I've heard people say it's cool).  I continued to use the pillow case (twin sets only come with one) for the extra pillow I sleep with, but it now has three holes in it.  I've been looking to replace it, but I can't touch things online, and so many of them are SO expensive for just two standard pillow cases!!!  for some reason I kept the sheets (my name is KK and I am a hoarder).  so I was thinking of maybe trying to sew a new pillow case.  I do know stretchy fabrics can be a pain to work with, but is it really that bad with jersey knit?  I know how to use my sewing machine and all, but I'm still pretty much a novice.  and I don't have a serger, so I don't know how well this would turn out.

any tips or tricks you guys can give me?
