Now we're in Gumby; I'm gonna walk through a book.

I made another celebration cake using a striping comb.  The idea was an elegant cake with black and white stripes and palette-knife flowers for my friend.  The stripes went well!  The flowers were my first foray into using a palette knife and frosting to approximate impressionist paintings...and I had to scrape off and redo a few times, lol.  It was fun though.

I should have just stopped after adding flowers, but I kept adding--the borders, the gold leaf, and it got to be a lot, lol.  My husband said it reminded him of Victoria's Secret in the 90s, and that cracked me up.  I realized that in 1991 (when I was 12) I had bedding/curtains that I thought was so grown up and mature that looked similar.  Ha! (This picture is kinda close.)

It's a three layer cake (6 inch diameter).  The inside was devil's food cake with chocolate ganache filling, and the outside is vanilla American buttercream (the black stripes are the same buttercream with a decent amount of cocoa powder added plus a healthy squeeze of black food coloring and a little blue to keep it on the cool side-colorwise).  There's also some vanilla swiss buttercream used as the crumb coat and for the flowers.  I was just too tired day two to make another batch of swiss buttercream, so that's why they're different.  Grin  Enjoy the bedding cake!  Wink

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.  Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

I like it! Very romantic-Tim Burton. Kind of reminds me of the live-action Sleepy Hollow more than 90's bedding. Grin You did a great job on the flowers. I like that sort of painterly style of cake decorating, but I've yet to try it out. Most of my friends/family members ask for pies and other non-cake things for most celebrations now.
