Iím at Clifty Falls State Park Inn locates in southern Indiana.  This stunning quilt is hanging in the lobby.  It is a map of the park.  Iím just in awe of the detail and creativity that went into this quilt.  I am truly inspired.  I got a few close ups, but Iím not tall enough to reach much of the quilt.

EDIT: I went back and took more pictures!

This is so very cool! Do you think one person made the whole thing, or was it a collaboration?

I inspected it pretty closely and itís hard to tell.  The embroidered patches were all from the same person, the hand-painted animals were from the same person, and the hand-sewing to attach everything were from the same person.  But were those elements down by three different people or just one?  Itís hard to say.  The fabric appears to be old DNR uniforms.  There are a few commercially manufactured state park patches on the quilt.  Some of them look like they could be brand new and others look like they are from the 60ís or 70ís, so I have no idea how old it is.  The gentleman working in the lobby couldnít tell me anything.  This quilt was clearly made by someone who loved the park dearly.

A few notes about the imagery on the patches:
1) The Park borders the Ohio River.  I love the patch the pirate flag. In the old days there was plenty of river pirating.
2) It is easy to find fossils at the park, hence the skeletons and dinosaurs.
3) There are leaf patches that were printed on fabric from real leaves.  What a lovely touch.
4) The little people made from fabric and thread are so charming.
5) I wish I could include pictures of every single button and patch.  It is just a wonder for the eyes.
