Our church is having an art showing based on one of our favorite Unitarian Universalist hymns, "Spirit of Life". Each artist created an art piece base a line in the song. I selected "Roots hold me close". It is an 18 x 24 fabric collage mini art quilt. I submitted today.

What's funny is everything came out of my stash. Even the beads. I have so many little bits of fabric (see, I knew I needed to save those bits) of every size. I even buy fat quarters just for the colors to have on hand. I did use up quite a bit of thread. May have to buy more thread. But I did clear out a good number of bobbins since the back is completely covered.

Spirit of Life

Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind,
rise in the sea;
Move in the hand,
giving life the shape of justice.
Roots hold me close;
wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.

That's an INTENSE amount of stash-busting, cmarion! But what a gorgeous and meaningful piece. Please take pictures of the full display when it's assembled. I'd love to see how everything comes together. The texture of the tree is outstanding.

The opening was tonight, lots of lovely pieces. Most lines had at least two entries. Mine was a hit and I  caught people touching it...so cool. Any way, it was fun!

I just looked at it again, even closer, and noticed that the book the child is holding has pages that can move. Wow. Still stunned.

Absolutely STUNNING work cmarion!  And I too really loved that hymn when my husband & I were attending the UU church in BG.  We're a bit sad there isn't one close by now that we've moved.  If you get a chance, I second the call for pictures of the rest of the exhibit.  I'm sure your quilt will be a jewel in the crown of the collection.  Cheesy
