The weekend before my trip to Toronto I realized I had already finished my projects for the show and only needed to finish some minor packing. So, I thought I'd work on a personal project. It's a kind of test piece to see if a larger project I wanted to make would be viable (a kind of shoulder hugging cape veil type thing. Still thinking on it. x_x).

So, I decided to make an ear cuff. I love faeries and elves and so forth, so I thought it would be fun to do something faerie inspired.

I ended up not keeping the piece but giving it to one of my favorite kimono designers, who I was very excited to meet. I hadn't really expected to give it to her, but she seemed so interested in it and I thought it would make a nice memento of her time in Toronto. Smiley

Here's how it looks being worn.

And one more on a grey background. Helps bring out the blue iridescent shine.

The butterfly is a wire frame, dip resin with iridescent mineral pigment and rhinestones. The body of the butterfly is a Japanese glitter wire.

The cherry blossoms are two-tone hand dyed silk with bead cap and rhinestone centers, and I wrapped the wire with embroidery floss and added a few more rhinestones and pearl millinery stamens for accent.

Absolutely beautiful and it looks awesome framing your ear.  Very generous of you to gift it to your friend too!

I'm just a dumb guy, so I don't know this stuffs: are these typically only worn on one ear, or more often in pairs like earrings?

This is gorgeous! What a cool new way to explore your kanzashi. I am sure the kimono designer was blown away and delighted to have such a wonderful and personal souvenir. Your cherry blossom petals are always so perfect!
