She's a Hone Onna - a Japanese yokai (legendary creature) - here's a link to a cool description: http://yokai.com/honeonna/ and in the latest Art Doll Swap https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458070.0 my partner, EriChanHime, listed this deceptive little creature as one of her topics.

I was intrigued. She appears beautiful to her lovers, then over time, rots away to a skeletal figure, with her beguiled lovers never noticing. Dangerous and beautiful. I crafted her as half beautiful woman, half skeleton.

I melded two dolls. It's always a little weird cutting off heads and splitting rib cages to create a doll. But I must prevail!

Making her kimono, slippers, mask, lantern, and hair accessories was fun and they came together easily. But her hair was a hair-raising experience. I bow in reverence to anyone who has made a doll wig or rerooted a dolls hair. ARGGGGH. I finally made it by making a wig cap and gluing strips of hair still attached to the wigcap, cut from a cheap child's Wonder Woman wig. I finally got the look I wanted. It's stylable!

The mask is fimo clay, the slippers were from several layers of thin cork glued together with ribbons added, her lantern was made from a small Christmas ornament, plastic gears, beads, and wire. Her kimono was handcrafted pattern and all from stash. Oh, and a porcelain doll arm. The only thing I bought was the doll stand and hair. My stash is getting scary.

I finally got the look I was going for. And my partner loves her! Wins all around.

I love both Japanese dolls and youkai, so this is right up my alley too!  Lots of creative and unusual critters and male/female entities in Japanese mythology, that's for sure.

Wonderfully done and I appreciate your process photos and description too.  When I do hair on my figures, I usually just carefully glue small clumps of it onto the scalp too.  It is indeed impressive/scary that you had most of that stuff already in your stash!

This doll reminds me of a horror story I heard awhile back.  I don't remember the specifics but it had something to do with something that happened to her during life that turned her evil and she hurt specific people who did specific things. I'm remembering something to do with sharpened fangs she had instead of teeth.  I forget what it was called, but the story creeped me out and the store of the doll reminded me of it.

The doll is amazing!  You can tell a lot of work went into it!
