I was originally going to post this question in TheMistressT's thread about the wooden hand she customized for her husband, but, I didn't want to lead her topic astray (I would get swatted with a limbo stick, so I would), thus, I'll put it here instead:

Recently, at a local woman's clothing store (Maurice's), walking by their display windows, I've noticed that they have several mannequins with nipples, which I've never seen anywhere else before.  They're fully clothed anyway, so, I really don't understand what the point is (or, rather, I see two points very clearly).  They're like a teenage boy's idea of what a female mannequin should look like.  I don't typically pay much attention to women's clothing displays, so, is that common nowadays and why?  I mean, yeah, it's anatomically more accurate, and I'm not a prude or anything, but, it also seems rather unnecessary too.  I is confused.

I cant speak to why they do this, but this is definitely not a new concept. I have seen mannequins like that at many stores over the years.

I've seen them like this for years now too, and could never understand why.  I mean, there's no clothing display situation where nipples would be a positive thing to see; unless it's a lingerie store! Huh

The only possible practical application I can think of is that maybe the nipples help keep short tops without straps from sliding off the breasts?  The reason I say that is that the dolls (none of which are anatomically correct) in my collection sometimes have those kinds of "wardrobe malfunctions" with those types of tops (doll manufacturers usually incorporate transparent plastic "straps" now to provide "invisible" support and prevent that).

It was just one of those "the world changed and nobody let me know" moment for me.  Anyway, thank you for letting me know that those kinds of mannequins are actually pretty common now.  Do they make male mannequins with crotch bulges too then, lol?

But with guys apparel, it makes sense.  Shorts and underwear and swimwear would need it to be there to look correct on the mannequin.  But nipples on the breasts would be like adding ____ on the ____ of the man mannequin, without trying to sound risqu.  To me, it's just pointless.

And now every word I type has a double meaning.  Oy.  Roll Eyes

I love Craftster-where else would this conversation be going on?   Grin

So male mannequins packing heat do exist!  Well, at least there's equality of sorts there at least.

Speaking of mannequins, I was walking home from the supermarket, early this morning, and noticed a woman's hand hanging from the wall near someone's front door downtown.  I have no earthly idea why.  The middle finger was missing nail polish too, not sure if that had any significance or not.  I would have liked to have gotten a closer photo, but, that's the best I could do from the sidewalk.  It was only a little after 6 AM, so, the occupant(s) were probably still asleep and I probably could have gotten away with it, but, still, it'd be trespassing to go up on their porch to shoot a photo, so, I didn't.
