I volunteered to teach needle-felting at the Craftster Asheville meetup that over the last weekend and when I found out that a whoppin' 15 people wanted to learn, I decided I'd do something more organized than "here's a box of wool, now stab it into something". I decided to teach our craft buddies how to make an Eastern Gray Squirrel because that is the state animal of North Carolina - this amuses me greatly Tongue

There were two workshops so I wound up making two of my own squirrels as part of the demonstration. Here's my little squirrel pals:

And here's aaaalllll the squirrels from the first workshop!!

And here's an in progress while I was demonstrating my techniques. Everyone did SO great and I was really impressed by all the first time needle-felters producing really really good squirrels in JUST an hour and a half! Some people kept working on them after that to add eyes and noses and clean up around the edges, but for such a short period, they were so fantastic Smiley

I hope we see more felted projects on our board now!! Cheesy

Thank you sooo much PerfectlyBohemian!  You did such a wonderful job teaching us and showing us step by step how to make your wonderful squirrels.  It was such an ambitious project and you pulled it off.  Smiley

Here's some shots of my squirrel, the amazing kit you gifted to all of us, and some in progress shots.

My mom and I had such a blast!!!  Thank you!!!

UTM, yours was so awesome! Thanks for letting me teach you!! Grin I totally forgot to give everyone in the second workshop some black wool for noses, but hopefully they will realize they can just do some embroidery stitches or glue on a little felt nose Tongue

PB, you were the best teacher! Not only did you provide us with everything we needed, but your instructions were so easy to follow. I had no experience in needle felting at all, so I didn't have very high expectations for my final result, but I love my little Dexter! Here he is in my backyard, a little miffed that some bird left a mess of Nandina berries on the wall.

I gave Dexter a little acorn cap. I hot glued a straight pin into the inside of the acorn, so the hat stays on, but is easy to remove if he gets too warm.

Thanks again for the fun class!  Kiss
