It's masterboard making o'clock!

craftylittlemonkey and I are both very obsessed with the technique of making a masterboard (a 8x10 or larger) piece of paper that you print on with any sort of medium (stamps/gelli prints/collage/etc.) The idea is that you spend time doing the printmaking once on a larger piece of paper, which then you cut into smaller pieces for atcs/notecards/tags/journals/etc. They can be the background or even the main piece.

Our thoughts were to host this sometime May (or maybe early June as there are a ton of epic swaps starting up in May) where each person would create about 4 (8x10) masterboards which they would send to their partner(s). Instead of just adding this to stash and not using it, you would then use part of what you received and dress it up with your own ideas and send back to your partner a little something-something using what they sent. So, like an atc/notecard/tag/etc.

This is a fun way to get into trying this technique. If we get enough participants, we can do groups, too!

Who's in?

(Craftylittlemonkey, can you and I look around to link our fellow craftsters with some images to help?)

I'd join. Will talk to TJ about it this afternoon in Asheville. I know; mean of me to rub that in. Sure wish you had been able to join us. I solemnly swear that I am up to no good but that we will meet in person someday.

kbrison You're a big meanie....LOL!!! JUST KIDDING!!!!!! I wish I could've come too, but I've been busy subbing and it's soccer season and well, life. I know we will meet up someday.  I can't wait for that!!

I saw in another thread that you are really busy in May. Would starting sign-ups in June work best, or end of May with send-outs in June work best? May seems to have a ton of great swaps--which is wonderful, like the good 'ole earlier days of swapping! Love it!

maimun I'm not sure if I knew you were interested in this or not before today, but I am glad you are interested! What time frame works best for you?

I've been interested ever since you all started sharing your masterboards.  They look like SO MUCH FUN.

I would prefer send out in June too but signups anytime.  Thanks for hosting!

I want to try this and I can go any time.

Asking for the future - what substrate do you use? Card stock or something sturdier? I have Bristol paper and I do use that for ATCS and ATcoins....I researched last night and some folks use anything leftover.

But I'm sure you don't want newsprint, right?

You'll be able to use whatever you want for the base! Newsprint would be awedmsome, actually! I like to use tissue paper!

I was going to say no way but I have such a heavy hand with layers of paint & glue. Just goes to show how versatile this technique is. I have liked the easy of later cutting with a paper base but my fave might be fabric, I like having the option to machine sew it. That can be done with paper too though.

Ive used sketch pad paper, watercolor paper, etc but I mostly use thin cardboard like cereal or cracker boxes.
Newsprint would be cool.
