This was an epic project. I do a bit of medieval reenactment and so I have wanted to make a fully embroidered coif. These were more common in blackwork, but I prefer the look of red work (scarlet work, Spanish work)

This was done on a cotton linen mix, the motifs outlined in double thread (a thick hand sewing thread, not embroidery floss) and then filled in with daipered patterns.

I reckon there is about 50 hours of work in this, lots of it was done in my recovery from chemo. It was then hand stitched into the finished coif. I haven't worn it to an event yet, but I am so happy it's done!

This was entered into a kingdom level competition, and didn't win. I won the competition with a different entry, but tbh I think I was robbed! There is a bit of bad blood between been one of the judges and the person who presented my entry on my behalf. But then maybe I'm extremely biased about this.

This is before it was stitched up

edelC, it is stunning!  Beautiful stitching, and such a nice project to come out of a rough time.  Hope you get to wear it soon!

This is gorgeous! I love the detail that goes into black and scarlet work. I am also super thrilled that you chose BUGS! I love the juxtaposition of the elegant embroidering and the cute creepy-crawlies. That dragonfly is AWESOME! Please share a picture of you wearing it. Smiley
