It only took a few hours to turn 100 feet of clothesline into this adorable basket.  Shocked

I was stressed out and needed something new and relatively easy to soothe my nerves. I had originally purchased the clothesline to make one of those fabric coil baskets from all of my quilting scraps, but that seemed like way too much work for how much time I had (and my mood).  Roll Eyes

I read quite a few tutorials, but here's one of the best ones I remembered to Pin.

I didn't want just a plain-Jane basket, though, so I decided to dress it up by using colored thread. Somehow, I've managed to accumulate an insane amount of thread...18 years of sewing and what I've inherited from other people. I grabbed 8 spools of pink, in various shades, and started with the darkest (not in the picture because it was already in the machine).

100 feet of 1/4" clothesline 7.5 partial spools of thread, a scrap of leather, and some waxed linen thread later...

This basket (that I don't have a use for yet)! It's about 11" wide and 5.5" tall.

Thanks for looking!

I love the idea of changing out the thread colors in order to shade such a simple basket.  Well done.

That looks incredible! Awesome stash buster too, so smart using all that pink thread up like that.

This is soooo pretty! I love how you used the thread colors to give it subtle color changes and how you seriously busted stash!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Nice!  How often did you switch threads for the ombre effect?

Thanks! It was such a hit, a few people are getting one for Mother's Day next month. I'm actually going to have empty pegs in my thread box when I'm done!

This sounds so meditative to make, and what a beautiful and useful result!

Oh my gosh, was it ever! My toddler fought his nap that day like he was going to be given a medal or something, and I was just frustrated and exhausted. I needed something diverting but productive. This stash-busting project fit the bill perfectly.

Nice!  How often did you switch threads for the ombre effect?

They were all just partial spools, so I just used each color until it ran out. I tried to get each color on both sides, but one or two spools didn't have much on them and didn't get loaded onto a bobbin. I still have most of the lightest shade of pink left.
