A friend is making another trip to Tanazania in a couple weeks. She and her mom decided to make feminine hygeine kits for girls who would have to miss school while having their periods. This diminishes the chances that girls will finish school. Cry  My contributions were for materials for and making drawstring bags to hold the kits and reuseable pads to include. The kits will also have ziplock-style bags for transporting used pads before cleaning and pairs of panties.

The outside layers are flannel, there are 4 layers of cotton batting inside, with a moisture barrier between the bottom layer of batting and the bottom piece of flannel. The wings have velcro to hold them in place.

I made most of the bags at a sew-in last weekend at my friend's house and didn't get photos.

UPDATE: They were thrilled with the pads and have requested more! So I am going to participate, but it's going to be awhile until I gather the materials and the hours. YEY!

This is fabulous! I would love to know what the moisture barrier fabric is, I've become hooked on these myself!

D'oh! That is the one material that I was given by my friend to make these rather than coming from my stash. I will ask her if she knows... I think she said it was from the stash she inherited from her aunt so she also may not know.  Undecided I do know that it is not the PUL fabric that is used in cloth diapers, because I have that in my own stash.
